The Homeworld Remastered Collection is headed for release on February 25. Late last week, we learned more about the project in the team's development diary. The collector's edition arrived in the office today so we had the opportunity to unbox it. You can join me in my journey to see what came with it!

After being handed the collector's edition I needed to find a space to unbox everything, so I found this empty room a few doors down. We got a note with the collector's edition that this particular one was the first one off the assembly line so that was pretty awesome. It also said that all of the collector's editions have already been pre-ordered, so if you want one and haven't already snagged an order, you are likely going to have to get it secondhand.

The box is a nice blue and white color and looks pretty slick. I looked around for a way to open, but it wasn't entirely obvious.

After turning the box upside down and looking over it, I found this lip.

Ok now we're in business. Let's take a closer look at the art book and the key chain.

I can't open the art book, but I can tell you what is inside of it. There is some information about the history of the Homeworld series and quite a bit of concept art for the original game. It's a little larger than I expected but it is still a small book. I enjoyed looking at some of the concept art for the motherships in particular. I had played the original Homeworld and the motherships were easily the most memorable part of the game. As I delved into the box, It seems Gearbox recognizes that too...

Clearly the highlight of the collection is the replica mothership. Let's take a closer look at everything in this second part of the box.

At this point I wasn't quite sure what this little rod was.

This rock piece on the other hand I was familiar with. The rock is a replica of the one that inspired the journey into space. The story trailer for the game explains this rock's significance in the greater Homeworld lore. You'll notice on top that there is a small hole in the rock. Clearly this was would be a base to display the Mothership.

Here we have some instructions which at the time I wasn't particularly interested in. It would come in handy later though. Since I had everything out of the box, I figured I'd take some pictures of it all neatly arranged.

When it is all laid out the collector's edition looks really cool. I wanted to save the best for last, so it was time to inspect the mothership. Let's take a look at this detailed figure. I got pictures of the ship from multiple angles so you can see all of its intricate detail.

Let's take a look at the back of the ship. You can see all of its thrusters.

One more shot of the opposite side of the ship. Plus a sweet Forza poster!

Now that you've seen every side of the ship, I figured it would be a good time to actually attach it to the base. The instructions came in handy here because it wasn't exactly obvious how the rod should fit into the ship. The stand was pretty easy to set up.

Well, there, it is all done! Well, actually no. With everything displayed I still had the power cord left over. The cord was a USB cord and I wasn't equipped in this room to use it. So I took the statue and the instructions and back to my office room.

Ok so here we are at my desk. I got the mothership plugged into my PC.

Well here is the moment of truth. I honestly wasn't quite sure what it would do at this point. I got the cord hooked up and the little black square you see is the power switch. I'll flip the switch now.

Hooray! It lights up. Well now you have seen my journey through the Homeworld Collector's edition. I'll leave you with two more shots of the lit-up mothership. You can look forward to our review of the Homeworld Remastered Collection in the coming weeks.
