NBC Creating Primetime Video Game Show?

by Phil Kollar on Jul 01, 2010 at 09:40 AM

With video game-related programming popping up on Spike TV and Syfy and a whole network (theoretically) focused on gaming in the form of G4, television coverage of our favorite hobby has been building for a while. If a new rumor holds any merit, NBC may be the first major network station to test whether video game programming can hold the attention of a larger mainstream audience.

A mysterious source has revealed to Joystiq that NBC is working on a pilot for a new video game TV show that is planned for a primetime debut as soon as next month. The show will be hosted by T.J. Allard, a former Ubisoft designer who also has an extensive history hosting news and entertainment programs such as Fox's Good Day Live. The show will also feature Audrey Cleo, a correspondent for Sony's Qore videos on PlayStation Network.

The show's working title is "Game On," and the pilot will supposedly include footage from E3 and interviews with Mortal Kombat producer Ed Boon and Kinect creative director Kudo Tsunoda. Beyond that info, it's unclear if the show would be focused on news and information, competition, or something else entirely.

T.J. Allard's previous work includes GBTV, an online video game broadcasting network. Perhaps his new show could focus on that style and finally try to bring competitive gaming mainstream? Or perhaps it's a reality show, and Sony's The Tester (pictured above) was simply ahead of its time. We'll update when we hear more specifics.
