Rainbow Six Siege's Next Update Is Coming Next Week

by Blake Hester on Jul 25, 2016 at 07:23 AM

Ubisoft has confirmed the next expansion for Rainbow Six Siege, Operation Skull Rain, will launch next week on August 2. The expansion brings new characters, a new map, and a new game mode to Siege.

Brazilian operators Caveira and Capitão, of Brazil’s Batalhão de Operações Policiais Especiais are new to the game. The first of the two can take a more stealthy approach, sneak up on enemies, and interrogate them to learn enemy locations. The latter of the two takes a far more offensive approach, equipped with a crossbow firing "asphyxiating bolts that burn oxygen within a certain radius," as explained by a post on the Ubisoft Blog. Both characters will be available first to Season Pass holders, who will have them exclusively for one week.

A new free map is also coming to Siege, set in Brazil. Ubisoft is claiming it will be the game's most destructible map yet. No further information was given.

Lastly, the expansion brings with it a host of tweaks to gameplay, including the addition of a new "
Tactical Realism" mode. This custom mode will strip Siege of most of its HUD, the ability to mark enemies, and kill confirmations. "The idea is to push players to rely even more on their teammates and communication for information on enemy locations and kill counts," the post explains.

More information on the Skull Rain expansion will come on July 30 during the Season Two Xbox Pro League Finals livestream at 3 AM CT. For more on Siege, make sure to check our review.
