Imagine if EA or Activision woke up one day and decided to swallow whole two other enormous publishers. The tabletop equivalent is going on right now, with French tabletop giant Asmodee getting ready for to acquire a second company in the space.

In 2014, Asmodee merged with Fantasy Flight Games, to become a tabletop megapublisher. The latter is responsible for countless fantastic Star Wars, Lovecraft, and Warhammer board and card games. In short, it was a megaton deal in the tabletop world.

Today, Asmodee announced it’s in talks to purchase F2Z, which owns a number of subsidiary board game studios. The company controls Z-Man (Pandemic) and Plaid Hat Games (Summoner Wars, Dead of Winter).

If the deal goes through, Asmodee would be control some of the biggest licensed games and original properties ever to grace a tabletop. The company also handles distribution in parts of Europe for Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon Trading Card Game, and Yu-Gi-Oh.

F2Z was founded 15 years ago in Quebec, Montreal. The companies have worked together for many years. “This deal is in the direct continuation of our close business partnership and will provide the best environment for our iconic games to reach their full potential and help our studios to continue publishing amazing games,“ said F2Z CEO Sophie Gravel in a jointly-released press announcement.

The acquisition is expected to take place in the months ahead.
