YouTube Launches Its Twitch-Killer Streaming Service Tomorrow

by Mike Futter on Aug 25, 2015 at 10:35 AM

YouTube has announced that it will be bringing its game streaming service to the masses starting tomorrow. If you live in the United States or the UK, you’ll be able to give it a try.

YouTube’s service will support 60 frames-per-second streaming and automatic conversion of live-streams into archived, on-demand videos. Footage will be grouped by title, making it easy to navigate among a user’s shared content.

YouTube Gaming will also kick off with all of the content already available on the main service. That means all of the guides, humorous videos, and weird glitches you already watch will be available under the new banner.

The service was announced in June just before E3.

Our Take
This space is in desperate need of competition, and having a competitor will hopefully drive Twitch to improve its fidelity and infrastructure. Having two powerhouses means better services and innovation for end-users.
