Update: Bethesda's Todd Howard clarified details about mod support for Fallout 4 on console. PlayStation 4 mod support isn't off the table yet.

Additionally, Howard clarified that Xbox One mod support will be coming after launch. We can look for it in early 2016.

As today's Microsoft press conference, Bethesda's Todd Howard made a big announcement.

The Fallout 4 mastermind revealed that after asking console makers for 15 years, PC mods will finally be compatible with the Xbox One version of Fallout 4.

Whether it be better visuals, gameplay tweaks, or just plain silly effects, mods have been a huge part of the PC gaming experience for Bethesda's Fallout and Elder Scrolls games for years. It's surprising to see the traditionally closed-off console market opening itself up for these mods.

It remains to be seen if mods will appear on the PlayStation 4 version of Fallout 4.
