Rumor: Activision Bringing Back Guitar Hero

by Matthew Kato on Feb 24, 2015 at 03:44 AM

Activision's Guitar Hero franchise burned out and faded away, but there's a rumor saying that the company is poised to get the band back together this year.

Kotaku U.K. says that two sources have told it that a new game, which will look more realistic, is in development for the franchise. One source said the game will be announced at E3 in June.

The report also says there are new peripherals for the title, and the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms were mentioned.

The developer for the game is unknown at this time, although the website says it was told the new Guitar Hero will be done by an Activision studio on the west coast. Previous studios for the franchise, Neversoft and RedOctane, are no longer in business.

We contacted Activision about the matter, and a spokesperson said the company does not comment on rumor or speculation.

Our Take
It's no surprise that this is happening, it's just too bad that a studio like Neversoft had to be lost in the meantime.
