The Star Citizen Release Date Road Map

by Matthew Kato on Jan 21, 2015 at 05:17 AM

At a BAFTA LA Masterclass session, Cloud Imperium's Chris Roberts announced the release road map for Star Citizen – including when he expects commercial launch.

The game has different parts to it such as an FPS component, ship combat/racing (Arena Commander), single-player/co-op campaign (Squadron 42), etc., and these will come out in various forms as you can see in the slide below. If everything goes according to plan, the whole thing should come together by the end of 2016.

"Next year, probably towards the end of it, is when everything will be all together in one package with most of the content there," said Roberts during his presentation. "Really from the end of this year to the end of next year, it's really going to be a big content drive and fine-tuning and honing drive."

Note: Roberts said that the "beta" text for the Planetside/social component in the slide should read "Alpha."

Our Take
Nailing dates in game development – particularly on this scale – is tricky, but at least Roberts is being transparent at this stage for his crowdfunded project.
