XSplit Updates Software, Removes Watermark For HD Streaming On Free Versions

by Mike Futter on Nov 19, 2014 at 08:41 AM

XSplit has announced major upgrades to its Broadcaster and Gamecaster software. The most notable changes see improvements to the free versions that allow un-watermarked HD streaming.

Previously, if you wanted to use either XSplit product without paying, you were limited to 480p and your video included the XSplit logo. Now, you can stream up to 720p and 30 frames per second without a watermark. You can also raise that to 1080p, but the logo returns.

Those that pay for the personal or premium software will get a new preview editor, audio monitor, video editor, and more. You can check out the full breakdown of features across the three versions on XSplit’s site

Our Take
I’ve used both the XSplit Broadcaster and Gamecaster, and both are intuitive. If you’re just getting started with streaming, definitely start with the Gamecaster. It’s streamlined and offers everything you’ll need to get off the ground. If you find you need more, it’s worth exploring the paid options.
