The Wait For The Last Guardian
Fans have been waiting forever it seems to see the latest on Sony's long-developed first-party game The Last Guardian.
It was reported last December that creator Fumito Ueda left the studio and was finishing the game on a contract basis. When we talked to head of Sony's worldwide studios Shuhei Yoshida in mid-February, he said of the game, "It’s making progress. There have been technical issues and the engineering team is reworking it. It’s playable, but not to the level of when we can say it’s coming."
This brings us to today. I asked Sony PR if there were any plans to show the game off at E3 next month. "The Last Guardian continues to be developed, however we have no news to share at this time with regard to the franchise and E3," a spokesperson told me.
Now, before you freak out, Sony isn't saying whether or not the game will be at E3. We'll to find out in a few weeks if the game is part of the company's press conference or not.
The Last Guardian is clearly in development hell and Sony isn't likely to show off the game again until things are stabilized and back on track. If they can't show it at E3, then SCEA president Jack Tretton needs to take the stage and at least reassure fans that Sony is still backing the project heavily.
