Finish High School In A Year? Atari's Nolan Bushnell Has The Plan

by Bryan Vore on Sep 09, 2011 at 10:47 AM

Atari founder and current company board member Nolan Bushnell recently proposed his cloud-computing solution for "disastrous" public high schools.

Bushnell revealed his Speed to Learn program at Cloud Gaming Conference USA. "I've been working on an education project for about 10 years now, and it turns out that educating children and computers go together," he said.

Bushnell's idea involves educating kids on cloud-connected computers so as to reduce breakdowns and virus problems, and using achievement-esque rewards.

"The whole idea is to give rewards that real kids want to have, and to have school be as chaotic as possible," he said. Reward examples include naps and time with a laser cutter.

The most surprising claim is that this system will cut three years off of a high school tenure.

It sounds like a lot of fun on paper, and this guy did start Atari and Chuck E. Cheese, but implementing new education programs is extremely difficult.
