Is It Time For Onimusha's Return?

by Joe Juba on Feb 06, 2011 at 10:30 AM

Onimusha was a major franchise for Capcom during the PS2 years, but the series has been dormant on the current generation of hardware. According to Capcom's Yoshinori Ono, Onimusha could be making a comeback sooner than you think.

In an interview with IGNOno admitted that he thinks Onimusha is ready to make a reappearance. "The time feels right to me. It feels like it's the time to resurrect that series," Ono says. "But I wouldn't want to do the things we've done before. I think it might be time to progress beyond the standard single-player adventure. There should be ways to expand upon what we've done while involving the community more. Perhaps implement some sort of multiplayer into a game like that."

I always get nervous when developers start talking about multiplayer in traditionally single-player games, but we don't know which (if any) of these ideas will actually make it into production. Onimusha has been dormant for a while… let's hope that bringing it back isn't another Bionic Commando-caliber fiasco.
