Magic: The Gathering Tactics Coming Next Week

by Matt Miller on Jan 13, 2011 at 09:50 AM

A grid-based version of the trading card game phenomenon will be free to play. Take a look at the new screens and video.

The new game is headed to PCs on January 18th, and looks to be a fun spin-off of the classic tabletop card game. Players choose one of several mana sources that decide what units you'll have access to in the game. The game is free-to-play, but it looks as if there will be microtransactions available to expand your collection of units, not unlike buying new cards for your deck.

Sony Online Entertainment just released several new screenshots for the game, which we've included in the media gallery below. There's also a recent video log from the developers, if you'd care to learn more.

While this initial release will only allow for play on PC, Magic: The Gathering Tactics will hit PS3 later in the year.
