Civ V Lead Designer Leaves Firaxis

by Adam Biessener on Dec 21, 2010 at 08:52 AM

Jon Shafer has moved on from heading up Civilization V in the wake of the huge patch that hit last week.

Troy Goodfellow at Flash of Steel has the news, which comes courtesy of the ol' LinkedIn profile. along with a content-free comment from Shafer on the departure. "I very much enjoyed my time Firaxis, worked on many projects that I’ve very proud of and got to know a lot of amazing people. I’m appreciative of the opportunities provided by Firaxis and 2K, and hope to see (and play) more great games from them in the future."

Shafer was not fired from his position; according to Goodfellow he left on his own terms.

It's not uncommon to see developers moving on after completing large projects. This seems to have been an amicable split, and we wish Shafer and Firaxis the best moving forward. Not that Shafer needs any help; if everyone looking for a job had a Civ V lead designer credit and Chris Evans-like good looks going for them, we wouldn't have any issues with unemployment.
