Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath Remake Hitting PSN In 2011

by Joe Juba on Sep 03, 2010 at 07:10 AM

After years of bad news, fans of the bizarre (and awesome) Oddworld series have something to celebrate today. The 2005 Xbox exclusive Stranger's Wrath is getting a fancy new remake, and it's coming to the PlayStation 3 next year via digital download.

According to the press release from developer Just Add Water, the studio is releasing an enhanced edition of the critically acclaimed title. Improvements over the original version include 720p visuals, more character detail, normal mapping, and remastered dialogue. The team is even including support for PlayStation Move.

This remake of Stranger's Wrath marks the first time that Oddworld will appear on Sony console since the release of Abe's Exoddus in 1998. However, since Stranger's Wrath was originally an Xbox title, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the game is coming to 360 as well. After all, the press release never says anything about the game coming exclusively to PSN.

We may be seeing even more Oddworld in the future. Just Add Water's managing director Stewart Gilray says, "Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath is the first project in what we believe will be a long and fruitful relationship."

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we'll be getting more 2D Oddworld titles...but any Oddworld is better than none at all.
