Nintendo: You Won’t See Mario On Facebook

by Tim Turi on Mar 03, 2010 at 05:14 AM

The folks at Nintendo have a good thing going for them. They have great games that you can only play on their consoles. Understandably, they’re not ready to tinker with this winning formula. Nintendo of America’s Cammie Dunaway recently reminded everyone that Zelda and Mario are permanently affixed to Nintendo systems.

"I think we will continue to save Mario for our own platforms", Cammie Dunaway, executive vice president of sales and marketing, told VentureBeat. "It's one of the secret weapons we have. Mario and Zelda are intellectual property that is important to us and will only be seen on Nintendo platforms."

This comes one day after the Facebook’s platform manager, Gareth Davis, said otherwise. Though he didn’t mean that Facebook will have an actual Mario game, he mentioned the social networking site will soon have its own “killer app.” “We’re going to have our Halo, our Mario, soon,” said Davis.

No, you’re not. What Cammie says, goes.

Do you think that Nintendo is being narrow-minded in regards to its key franchises' future?
