God Of War III Director Would Rather Not Do A Sequel Anytime Soon

Right now PlayStation 3 owners are eagerly waiting to pick up their pre-ordered copies of God of War III, and rightfully so, as God of War is one of the biggest series in all of gaming. However, we should probably take our time savoring the series' latest installment, because if creative director Stig Asmussen has his way we might not see another God of War game for a long time.

In a recent interview with 1up.com Asmussen talked about how he’d like to see the God of War series treated in a similar manner to Nintendo’s Metroid franchise, meaning he’d like to put the series to rest for awhile so that when it inevitably comes back – in say "ten years" – it would still seem fresh.

"I think there comes a time when to maintain a high level of quality,” said Asmussen. “The bottom line is you can't get burned out, and the source material can't always be the same. I want God of War to be one of those games where, if there are more God of Wars, we're seeing them spread out over time...for a trilogy, it's great. Let's put it to bed for awhile."

We should also note that Sony hasn’t released any official statements regarding the future of the God of War franchise, and we can’t imagine that it’ll let the series collect dust for a whole decade. On the other hand, if the team that made God of War wants to do something else, we say they should have free reign to work on whatever they want.
