Blog Herding – The Best Blogs Of The Community (August 20, 2015)

by Game Informer Editorial on Aug 20, 2015 at 06:00 AM

Community writing challenges are back this week, as is the community playdate! Aside from those two wonderful events, we also have some fun blogs on art books, Ace Attorney casework, and a look at Everybody's Gone to the Rapture.

Community Blogs For August 13 – August 19:

Getting This "Straight Outta" Meme Straight Outta Me
Born4this jumps on the "Straight Outta Somewhere" meme bandwagon and provides the community with some silly, video game interpretations of the meme. It's worth a few chuckles. Well done!

Looking Back: Favorite 2000 Games
2000 was a long time ago, but Jon_G still has fond memories of the gaming landscape 15 years ago. In his blog post he reveals his favorite games from that wonderful year – and many of them are absolutely exquisite. It's hard to believe Mega Man Legends 2, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, and Perfect Dark came out so long ago.

An Unexpected (And Ironic) Turn With My Aforementioned Egg In Pokemon X
Rebekah Lang experienced pure elation after finding a Pokémon egg during her adventure through Pokémon X. But the joy didn't last in her quest for rare, cool pocket monsters.

The Top Ten Best Ace Attorney Cases
MightyMagikarp is back with another Ace Attorney blog, this time ranking the most interesting cases featured in the series. There are some spoilers, so if you plan on playing this wonderful series, I suggest you steer clear. And if you haven't played the series yet, get on it!

Art Book Extravaganza
Katzenbalger has an insanely awesome collection of art books. This blog gives readers a look at some of the covers, while also detailing what each book contains. For anyone who wants to start collecting art books, this is a good blog to learn more about them.

Revisiting Halo 3: ODST
It took six years, but Irwin529 finally appreciates what ODST is: A very different, dark, and personal tale of life as a regular Joe (at least when compared to Master Chief) in the war against the Covenant. I still listen to the ODST soundtrack on the way to work.

Community Reviews:

Everybody's Gone to the Rapture Review
It isn't a popular opinion, but boxcar182 gives good reasoning behind his disdain for developer The Chinese Room's latest game. While others like the plodding pace and atmosphere of the game, boxcar182 just couldn't get past the bland gameplay.

Hyrule Warriors Review: It's Not That Dangerous To Go Alone
Enuo puts one of my favorite Wii U games to the sword and deems it a masterclass in gaming. He says, "it successfully combines the best aspects of its source material to create something new, unique, and wholly alive with its own ideas." Couldn't agree more.

Stealth Inc 2: A Game of Clones Review: Coming Out of The Shadows
Lovemeorshootme is here to review another game, this time a stealthy one full of puzzles. He doesn't think Stealth Inc. 2 is great, but it's a fun diversion if you're waiting for the holiday onslaught of releases.

Community Writing Challenge:

I asked for suggestions for writing challenge topics from the community – and you guys delivered. We've picked one of boxcar182's suggestions in our bid to jumpstart what has been a fun series. So, without further ado, I task all of you to write about the one game you would play for the rest of your life if you could only play one game. Quite the nightmare scenario. Side note: Try to get your blogs posted by Tuesday evening – we sometimes miss out on sharing your blogs because they come in after deadline.

Community Playdate:

We will jump back into Rocket League this Sunday at 7:00 p.m. CST. Make sure to add me, Louiskensei, to your PS4 friend list and let me know if you're playing in the comments. Beginners and veterans are welcome.

I hope you enjoy the blogs! Please contact me via my Game Informer page or on Twitter at @LouisGarcia12 with any blog news or playdate suggestions.
