Replay – Jak & Daxter: The Lost Frontier

by Andrew Reiner on Mar 15, 2014 at 03:00 AM

We took a look at Naughty Dog's inaugural Jak & Daxter title a few years ago, and while logic would dictate we look at the sequel next, we decided to jump ahead to Jak & Daxter: The Lost Frontier – the sixth installment in this series' chronology. Most people, many Game Informer staffers included, see this series as a trilogy, but the fiction actually expands across six games. If you want to soak up every moment you can of Jak and Daxter's adventures in order, you'll want to play the games in this order: Jak & Daxter, Daxter (the PSP game), Jak II, Jak 3, Jak X (the racing game), Jak & Daxter: The Lost Frontier.

Development duties of The Lost Frontier weren't handled by Naughty Dog, and instead fell to developer High Impact Games, the same studio that created new adventures in Insomniac's Ratchet & Clank series. While channeling many elements from Naughty Dog's three core titles, High Impact takes this series in different directions, which we get to see early on this episode of Replay.

Matt Helgeson, Tim Turi, Kyle Hilliard, join me for a thorough talk about this series. As always, we follow this segment up with a look at a secret second game. JRPG fans won't want to miss this one!
