Batman: The Dark Knight Returning To IMAX Theaters For Ten-Year Anniversary

by Imran Khan on Jul 18, 2018 at 02:55 PM

It has been exactly ten years since Batman: The Dark Knight, director Christopher Nolan's sequel to a dark and gritty Batman reboot, and Warner Bros. Pictures is celebrating. The studio announced that the middle chapter in the Batman trilogy will be returning to select IMAX theaters starting August 24.

Starting in August, four select theaters in North America will have one showing of The Dark Knight a day for a week. If you want to see it, you'll have to catch that showing in one of the four IMAX theaters showing it.

  • AMC Lincoln Square, New York
  • AMC Metreon, San Francisco
  • AMC Universal Citywalk, Universal City, California
  • Ontario Place Cinesphere, Toronto

Tickets go on sale this Friday, July 20, and are almost certainly going to go fast. IMAX is particularly significant to the film's legacy, as it was the first major motion picture to use IMAX cameras and contained 28 minutes of IMAX footage, most notably the movie's bombastic opening bank heist.

The Dark Knight was lauded for its gritty depiction of superheroes and their super villains, with Heath Ledger's Joker garnering particular acclaim. Ledger died in January 2008 ahead of the movie's release and was posthumously awarded the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the movie.
