Keiji Inafune's KAIO: King Of Pirates Cancelled

by Kyle Hilliard on Mar 14, 2015 at 11:19 AM

After Keiji Inafune left Capcom, one of the first projects he announced with his new studio was KAIO: King of Pirates. That title has been cancelled.

In a press release from Marvelous, the publisher announced the title has been scrapped after investing 461 million yen (about $3.8 million) into the project, according to translations from Gematsu and Siliconera.

Though details were never entirely clear about what the game was meant to be, we do know it was being developed for 3DS, was inspired by Journey to the West, and starred anthropomorphic pirate animals.

We've reached out to Marvelous for further details about the game's cancellation. You can check out the very first trailer for the now-cancelled game below

Our Take
Considering how little we knew about KAIO, it's hard to say I am disappointed. Keiji Inafune has Mighty No. 9 in the works which is very exciting,
