[Update] PlayStation Home Going Offline Worldwide On March 31, 2015

by Mike Futter on Sep 26, 2014 at 08:03 AM

Update: Circle the date on your 2015 calendars, PlayStation Home users. March 31, 2015 is the final day to life Sony's virtual life in all territories.

SCEA has confirmed to us that the service will become unavailable at that time here in North America, also. You can read the company's statement here.

Original Story:

PlayStation Home is slowly on its way off of Sony servers and into the history books. The service, which was announced for termination in Asia in August, will also be taken offline in Europe.

The European servers will cease operation on March 31, 2015. The last batch of new content will arrive on November 12, 2014, with downloads ceasing on December 3. Between then and the server closures, Sony will push free content out to users.

The sunset dates align with those in Asia, though those territories have already ceased providing new content. We’ve reached out to Sony to inquire about operations in North America.

Our Take
While no announcement has been made for the North American market, it’s safe to expect that Home will disappear here soon, also. I’d be interested to learn if this was a profitable venture for Sony in the long-run and, if so, what it learned that has since been applied to other endeavors.
