Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z Gets Two Week Delay, Digital Comic

by Mike Futter on Jan 23, 2014 at 04:57 AM

Tecmo Koei has alerted us that the upcoming Ninja Gaiden spinoff, Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, has been delayed from its previous March 4 release. The title will now be coming two weeks later. To soften the blow, Tecmo has also let us know about a free Dark Horse Comics tie-in that’s available now.

The three-issue comic fills in the game’s backstory. It’s written by Tim Seeley (Hack/Slash) and Josh Emmons, with art by Rafael Ortiz (Dan the Unharmable) and color by Carols Badilla (Hack/Slash). The cover was created by James Harren (B.P.R.D. Hell on Earth, X-Men: To Serve and Protect).

You can download the first issue from Dark Horse Comics. Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z will now be released on March 18 on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

Our Take
Tie-in comics are hit-or-miss. With Yaiba’s cel-shaded aesthetics, bringing the story to readers early in comic form makes sense. I’m interested to see if there’s any meat on the narrative bone, or if Yaiba is all style and no substance.
