3D Tekken Movie Coming Out This Summer

by Dan Ryckert on May 11, 2011 at 09:53 AM

Video games have always made for Academy Award-caliber feature-length films, especially the fighting genre. After seminal pieces of cinema like Street Fighter: The Movie, Mortal Kombat Annihilation, and that Chun-Li thing, fans of high art have been clamoring for another movie based on a fighting game. Thankfully, Digital Frontier (makers of Resident Evil: Degeneration) are heeding the call with Tekken Blood Vengeance.

Releasing this summer, the CGI (and 3D) film will be written by Ghost in the Shell and Cowboy Bebop's Dai Sato. “We’re thrilled to be taking the characters, history, and legacy of the Tekken universe into a full-length 3D movie,” said Carlson Choi, Namco's VP of marketing. “Tekken is one of the most recognizable fighting franchises in video games and we believe fans have an enthusiastic appetite for seeing the characters in a new medium. This is a great opportunity for players to learn the histories and motivations behind the fighters who join the King of Iron Fist Tournament.”

I just hope the clip they show at the Oscars is the one where Heihachi throws his son into a ****** volcano. Check out the trailer below.
