Update: Crysis 2 Multiplayer Beta On Xbox 360 Experiencing Glitches

by Matt Bertz on Jan 26, 2011 at 11:56 AM

[UPDATE]: It appears the Xbox 360-exclusive demo of Crysis 2's multiplayer is experiencing some technical difficulties; some players are reporting problems connecting to the game's servers, while others are experiencing console freezes. Crytek has acknowledged the problem, posting the following on its forum.

"We are paying close attention to the forums and online discussion. It’s good to see many players having a great time. However, we do understand that a few players are having technical issues with the demo....We are working to resolve this as quickly as possible, we apologize if it is affecting your experience."

There's no word yet on when a potential fix will be available, but it is a beta after all, so some hiccups are to be expected.

If you're one of the players who isn't experiencing problems, here's some good news: You can play with the Crytek developers this Saturday afternoon. For more information on the event, check out Crytek's homepage.

[ORIGINAL STORY]: Xbox Live Gold members can hop online right now to don the nanosuit and test the waters of Cytek's latest near-future sci-fi shooter.

This 360 exclusive demo features two game modes and one map set in post-invasion Manhattan. Team Instant Action is basically a team deathmatch mode, while Crash Site tasks players with locating and defending alien drop pods from other players. Crysis 2's full multiplayer component will feature 12 maps, 6 modes, and 50 multiplayer ranks, as well as nanosuit upgrades.

I'm a huge fan of the sandbox single-player campaigns, but in the past the Crysis multiplayer options haven't impressed me. Since the former Timesplitters developers Free Radical (now dubbed Crytek UK) worked on this version, I'll be checking this out tonight to see if the sequel fares better than the original and the Warhead expansion. Has anyone played it yet? If so, what do you think?
