Pokémon Sword & Shield's Wild Area Gives Players Full Camera Control In An Open Environment

by Kyle Hilliard on Jun 05, 2019 at 08:17 AM

During this morning's Pokémon Direct Game Freak detailed a location called Wild Area. In Wild Area, trainers will be able to explore a large open area that stretches between cities with a fully controllable third-person camera. It also looks like Pokémon will be visible in the world and different ones will appear depending in where you are and what the weather is like. The footage for Wild Area showed a trainer fishing at a lake a shaking a tree to grab dropped berries.

Along with exploring on your own, there will also be opportunities to to team up with up to three other players locally or online to participate in Max Raid Battles. They look functionally similar to Pokémon Go's raids, where players work together to capture large versions of familiar Pokémon.

Pokémon Sword and Shield releases November 15. Follow the links to learn more about the Dynamax mechanic and the new Legendaries.
