Super Galaxy Squadron is described as a not-bullet hell, not-impossible, not-hardcore (unless you want it to be) shoot-em-up. But why would a traditional space shooter eschew the “you must die” mentality of the genre? Well, so you’ll buy it and support charity.

Psyche Studios and New Blood Interactive teamed up to release the game in support of Child’s Play, a charity designed to improve the lives of children in over 70 hospitals worldwide. Until 10 a.m. Pacific tomorrow, it’s on sale for $6.49, after which it will go up to its normal price of $7.99.

So far, the game has raised about $10,000 in sales during its launch week, all of which will be contributed to Child’s Play. The team hopes to double that by the end of the month.

The soundtrack, which you can hear in the trailer above, was composed by Random Encounter. You can listen to it (and more from the band) on its Bandcamp page. You can read more about Super Galaxy Squadron (and purchase it) on the Steam store page.
