How The Odd Gentlemen Create The Hand-Painted Look For King’s Quest
by Mike Futter on May 20, 2015 at 05:30 AM

It’s fair to say that most contemporary gamers wouldn’t be content with a new King’s Quest game that looks like the originals. That means that The Odd Gentlemen, tasked with reviving the classic Sierra franchise, needed to come up with a way to honor the franchise without replicating its older look.

The decision was made to go with hand-painting, using some of the original references for the 1980s franchise. The result is cinematic animation that gives the new King’s Quest title a charming look all its own.

The new King’s Quest includes nods to the original, but will be a new adventure fit for a contemporary audience. You’ll be able to play the first episode on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PC this fall.
