The Live-Action Minecraft Movie Gets A Release Date

by Kimberley Wallace on Jun 27, 2016 at 01:31 PM

The live-action Minecraft movie directed by It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia's Rob McElhenney finally has a release date. Unfortunately, it's still years away from its debut.

Up until this point, very little has been revealed about the movie, which has left fans guessing just how the juggernaut video game franchise will translate to the big screen.

For those that are curious, the movie releases on May 24, 2019, hitting screens in both 3D & IMAX. Since this is so far off it makes sense why we haven't heard any plot details or actors involved in the project.

Hopefully, more information will surface now that a release date is set.

Our Take
This seems like a long ways away, but at least something is locked in stone. We've seen Lego have great success on the big screen, so Minecraft could follow suit, but until we hear some concrete details it's hard to know what to think. Plenty of children and adults alike are so invested in Minecraft that it makes sense why a movie is in the works.
