Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One May Have Its Villain With Ben Mendelsohn

by Kyle Hilliard on Jan 06, 2016 at 02:38 PM

Ben Mendelsohn, known for appearances in movies like The Dark Knight Rises and Killing Them Softly, is in negotiations to play the villain role in Steven Spielberg's adaptation of Ready Player One.

According to The Hollywoord Reporter, Mendelsohn is currently in negotiations to play Nolan Sorrento, the story's CEO antagonist who has intentions to take over the popular virtual reality game, OASIS. Mendelsohn will also be appearing in the next Star Wars film, Rogue One, as well as Star Citizen.

If Mendelson accepts the role, he will join the so far only confirmed cast member, Olivia Cooke (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, Bates Motel), who is playing Samantha Evelyn Cook. Protagonist Wade Owen Watts has not been cast.

Ready Player One is planned for release on December 17, 2017. We recently spoke with Ready Player One author Ernest Cline about his new novel, Armada, and about the difficulty of working in Hollywood. You can read that interview here.
