Halo Series Reaches 65 Million Copies Sold

by Mike Futter on Jul 13, 2015 at 09:55 AM

Microsoft is likely to have a huge hit on its hands when Halo 5: Guardians ships. The series has sold in five million copies in the last eight months, bringing the total to sixty-five million worldwide.

Microsoft didn’t dive into specifics, which could indicate that a number of these could have been packed-in with Xbox One consoles. It’s also not clear if The Master Chief Collection counts as one game or multiples.

Regardless, 65 million units is an impressive milestone that is likely to blossom once Halo 5: Guardians arrives on October 27. For more on 343 Industries’ latest, check out our coverage hub from the July 2015 issue.

Our Take
The 65 million copies statistic is just the tip of the iceberg. It doesn’t take into account map packs, in-app purchases (Halo: Spartan Assault), tie-in novels, animation rentals and sales, merchandise, and everything else that Halo touches. There’s little doubt in my mind that Halo continues to be Microsoft’s go-to for blockbuster sales (well… except for that little game called Minecraft).
