Gamescom Pulled In More Than 275,000 Attendees

Gamescom's organizers have released official attendance tallies for the annual gaming show, which ended Sunday. More than a quarter of a million people crowded into the convention center in Cologne, Germany, which certainly explains the long lines.

The organizers also broke down those numbers a bit more, saying that trade attendees arrived from 83 countries, and more than 5,300 games writers popped into town to cover the festivities.

"The concept of Gamescom has borne fruit: as a leading international trade fair, it presents all types and aspects of games for all platforms," says Maximilian Schenk, managing director of the German Association for Interactive Entertainment Software. "We would like to thank most sincerely the gamer community, the visitors, exhibitors and partners, the City of Cologne, the State of North Rhine Westphalia, our partner country South Korea and especially Koelnmesse. We can all be very proud of gamescom 2012 – and we intend to continue in the same vein in 2013."
