Author Publishes Book That Uses Zelda As A Means To Discover Christianity

by Kyle Hilliard on Dec 30, 2011 at 06:56 AM

The new book by author Jonny Walls seeks to expose non-Christian gamers to the concepts of the Christian religion, and non-gamer Christians to one of the best video games of all time.

It seems as though Walls isn't looking to convince anyone that Zelda is a retelling of Christian theology, which was my first assumption, but rather an attempt to bring together two worlds that don't normally get along, religion and video games. Walls is clearly a fan of Zelda saying in an interview with Gray Matter Books, "The Legend of Zelda is the Beatles of video games. I wasn't just playing a game – I was living out an ancient mythology... discovering lost lands, solving riddles, avoiding traps and wiping out evil. I had no idea a game was capable of such potency."

It's an odd premise for a book, but Walls seems determined to alleviate some of the stigma that Christian leaders tend to associate with video games, which sounds good to me.
