The Wondrous Sights Of TGS 2014 – Day Two

by Joe Juba on Sep 19, 2014 at 07:15 AM

The Tokyo Game Show is in full swing, and the sights and sounds of the show floor are different from any other video game event in the world. We've covered of our favorite things already, but that didn't cover all of the interesting things to be seen in the Makuhari Messe.

Join us for the second in our three-day chronicle of the strange and amazing scenes happening all over TGS 2014.

This is the official TGS banner. I noticed some other people taking pictures of it, and I didn't want to miss out on the action.

The walk to the convention and the entrance are basically the same as last year, complete with ads for Evil Within (Psycho Break in Japan). But I didn't come to TGS to see billboards...

...I came to see robots...

...and robot dogs...

...followed by even larger robots.

I wish I was kidding when I tell you that Kim made me wait in line for 20 minutes in order to snap this picture of her with these Ace Attorney characters.

I got pretty excited about the "winter" release timeframe on Bravely Second, until I remembered that it's the Japanese release date. The game still hasn't been officially announced for North America.

These women were interviewing someone in a ghoulish pink bunny mask as though it was a perfectly natural and non-nightmarish thing to do.

It's nice to see that some American cultural landmarks, like the recent Godzilla movie, are finding an audience in Japan.

If you have never seen Hatsune Miku before, one trip to Tokyo will fix that problem one thousand times over. Except you see her right there, so, don't worry about it.

I couldn't quite tell if this booth was promoting the game-development scene in Holland, or just Holland in general.

I mean, it has a couple screens, but the side of the booth is just full of fun facts about Holland.

Dispelling the common myth, it appears that first-person shooters are popular outside of North America...

...but not every first-person shooter.

Two women sitting on a couch!? That's Japan for ya!

TGS Trivia time: Can you guess which game this horrifying monster is from? I don't want to give the answer away, but if you examine the picture very closely, you might find a clue.

This monster from Monster Hunter is inflatable, so I'm guessing he's the target for a very, very low-level quest. Inflatable beasts do not last long in the wild.

I know this picture turned out a little blurry, but that's because this is an actual moving carousel for some reason. People aren't allowed to ride it, though; it just sits there and spins all day long, never being allowed to fulfill the sole purpose for which its kind was created.

And to close out the day's events, I leave you with this picture of a goat suspended over the crowd at the Konami booth thanks to some help from the Fulton recovery system.

Check back tomorrow for our final installment of The Wondrous Sights of TGS 2014.
