The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – The Adventure Board Game Announced, Releasing Next Summer

by Wesley LeBlanc on Nov 02, 2021 at 09:38 AM

Less than two weeks away from the 10th anniversary of Bethesda’s beloved fantasy RPG, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which is getting a special anniversary re-release, a new board game set in its world has been announced.

Dubbed The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – The Adventure Game, this board game is being created by Modiphius Entertainment as a tabletop RPG that features 12 hours of story content, and that’s just for players that take the golden path. Add in unique story choices, character roleplay, different play styles, and more, and its playtime stretches to dozens of hours.

“This new solo/cooperative (up to four players) game of adventure and exploration invites aspiring adventurers to return to the frost-covered lands of Skyrim,” a press release reads. “Take up arms against dragons, Daedra, trolls, and many more wretched creatures to help the common folk sleep a little easier at night as you battle for glory. It’s a dangerous time, so the party brave enough to charge head-first into danger best have each other’s back.”

Skyrim – The Adventure Game is currently available for preorder through Gamefound for about $92. That’ll get you the base game, although you can pay about $190 for the additional expansions or even $300 for an edition that comes with special tokens, extra miniatures, and more. Those who preorder will receive it in the Summer of 2022.

In The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – The Adventure Game, players are surviving members of the Blades, a legendary group who long protected the Empire of Tamriel, and must band together to thwart a plot to eradicate them all.

Players will be able to select one of six races for their own character, and each race has a “lavishly detailed plastic miniature” based on them: Nord, Dunmer, Imperial, Altmer, Khajiit, and Orismer. You’ll be able to equip weapons, spells, armor, and more, and travel to iconic Skyrim locations like Riften, Whiterun, and other locales.

This tabletop RPG features two main narrative-driven campaigns, and each is three chapters long. Modiphius says each chapter consists of roughly 90 to 120 minutes of gameplay. Player choices and actions will dictate how each chapter, and subsequent narrative, plays out, and everything affects the overarching story of Skyrim – The Adventure Game.
