One of Nintendo’s original baddies, Mother Brain, will play a role in the upcoming Wii U and 3DS versions of Super Smash Bros. Series director Masahiro Sakurai revealed the cranial criminal as an assist trophy this morning.

Assist trophies are items that summon a random character to aid the player that picks them up. In the Wii’s Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Metroids were one of the possible characters held in the tiny capsules.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS are on track for a 2014 release. For more, check out the recent reveals of Lucario, Zelda, the Skull KidMarthSonic, a redesigned Ray Gun, the 3DS Mii Plaza, and a male Wii Fit trainer.
