Nintendo Reveals Super Smash Bros.' Redesigned Ray Gun

The Ray Gun has appeared in all three of the prior Smash Bros. game, but for the upcoming Wii U and 3DS iteration, the gun has received its most drastic redesign.

Super Smash Bros. director, Masahiro Sakurai, said of the new ray gun in a post on the Miiverse, "The Smash Bros. mark appears backward because it acts like a stamp. We design the Ray Gun carefully each time to ensure it doesn't look like a real gun."

Every day new images appear on the Super Smash Bros. website, and we share the images that add new details. Head here to learn about Marth's return, Sonic, and the other Wii Fit Trainer.

  • These Smash Bros updates aren't very good lately. When they get around to being smart enough to include and announce characters from Xenoblade Chronicles, Eternal Darkness, Dillon's Rolling Western, and Bayonetta, then they'll finally have some worthwhile news.

And if Nintendo doesn't include Bayonetta, they're failing at smart marketing.

I decided to take a few minutes to explain myself. So here:
  • I'm looking forward to this game. Its gonna be really fun.
  • If they could add snake they could totally add jack frost and pyro jack right? RIGHT?
  • Lame.
  • Looks like a weapon Ratchet would be comfortable using.
  • Ugh. That's the downside of constant social media updates, I guess. Sometimes, the updates are comparable to 'this is what I ate today.' I think that it's time to announcer a NEW character. I'm more or less indifferent to what the bloody Ray Gun looks like.
  • I have been waiting for this game for almost a year since I got my wii u. Come on nintendo and give me what I need!!!

  • Nice.  Pretty cool!

  • They still haven't told me why I should buy this instead of playing of Melee. This game looks exactly the same as Brawl, so why the h should I waste my money on it? Nintendo's games are getting lamer and lamer lately.
  • That's funny how they make sure to design it to make it not seem like a real gun, despite the fact that "gun" is in the name of the item.

  • My heart dropped for a second when I saw Mario with a gun before I realized that it was a screen shot from Smash Bros, lol :P

  • So far all of the reveals for this game have just kinda been "eh" I know they are keeping it hush hush but damn at least show us another NEW character, i mean honestly does anybody really care about what characters are returning?
  • I like the new design of the ray gun.

  • Looks good, but this is a pointless reveal.  Items are cheap to use so they will be turned off the second I get the game, save for maybe the smash ball to see the new final smashes, and then be done with that too. Characters are the only thing of interest in what is going to be coming for this game.

  • Really? They don't want it to look like a "real" gun? Sometimes games get WAY too PC. I know this is marketed at kids, but kids LOVE playing with guns. Nerf Guns, Cops and Robbers, etc. It's just playing, it doesn't mean they are going to become violent.
  • Why are they afraid to make it look like a real gun? What, do they think the HD will make people confused ans Nintendo is advocating for gun violence?
  • The ray gun from the original smash bros was the best. It looked cool, and sounded deadly.

  • I liked the old design better

  • Awesome!
