Donkey Kong 64 Now Available On Wii U Virtual Console

by Kyle Hilliard on Apr 18, 2015 at 05:33 AM

Donkey Kong 64, Rare's collect-a-thon platformer, is now available on the Wii U's Virtual Console.

Announced during Nintendo's most recent Direct presentation, you can grab the game now for $9.99 on the Wii U. This and Super Mario 64 are among the first of the Wii U initiative to release Nintendo 64 games on the Wii U's Virtual Console.

We played the game on Replay back in 2012, and you can check out the episode below. At the time we released this episode, we were in the middle of a heated debate about which was the best Nintendo 64-era platformer: Super Mario 64, Banjo-Kazooie, or Donkey Kong 64.

Our Take
I love the Donkey Kong Country series, but never got too deep into Donkey Kong 64. I remember renting it, but just being absolutely overwhelmed by the number of playable characters and collectibles. It was too much to take in during the three to five day period I had with the game.
