Twisted Pixel Teams Up With Troma President For The Gunstringer

Sometimes game developers draw inspiration from unexpected sources. For The Gunstringer's director Bill Muehl, that involves the campy horror movies of Troma Entertainment's president Lloyd Kaufman, who is pitching in on the project in an unexpected way.

The opportunity for collaboration comes from The Gunstringer's unique premise, which presents the game's action as though it's taking place on a theater stage. As players make their way through the game, their performance will be reviewed by a variety of faux critics, including Twisted Pixel employees and celebrity cameos. When Muehl contacted Kaufman about doing one of these parody reviews, the gore master was happy to help out.

"So I got a call from Bill here and he said he wanted my help but he didn’t have any money for me," Kaufman says on the official Gunstringer blog. "I do that to people all the time so I knew what he was up to. He was trying to use the master’s tricks back on the master! I figured, well it’s been two decades since I gave the world The Toxic Crusaders, the best video game of the 20th century. I’ve waited a long time but The Gunstringer, being a true indie production with a crazy amount of personality, is the right game at the right time for some Troma love. We are making magic together."

I'm no stranger to bad horror movies, but even I have a hard time making to the end of a Troma film. Here's hoping the "magic" Troma and Twisted Pixel make together turns out better than Rabid Grannies.
