Casting Call – The Tetris Movie

by Kyle Hilliard on Oct 05, 2014 at 02:06 PM

From time to time, we put together casting calls for actors we would like to see playing characters in film adaptations of video games. Recently, a movie based on the Tetris license was announced, and since we already obviously know who the characters will be (the Tetrominos) we are outlining who we want to see play the iconic pieces in the film.

I (Straight Polyomino)Tom Hanks
Always reliable and never disappointing, this role belongs to Tom Hanks. He was born to play the Tetris piece you're always happy to see. As a bonus, Hanks played the character Viktor Navorski from the fictional country Krakozhia in The Terminal. It may be fictional, but it is heavily implied that Krakozhia is based in Russia, the homeland of Tetris.

O (Square Polyomino)Kevin Hart
As the shortest of the Tetrominos, it’s important that the Square Polyomino be played by a short actor. At 5’4”, Hart is the perfect height, but he is also good at playing the person you need the most when you’re in a tight spot and just need to clear a few lines to get back on your feet. Plus, he's in everything lately, so I think people would be confused if he weren't in the movie.

T (T-Polyomino) Gary Oldman
As the most versatile of the Tetrominos (it can be a stand in for a J, L, S, or Z Tetromino), the actor playing the T-Polyomino must themselves be incredibly versatile. With the ability to inhabit radically different roles in many different films, Oldman is the man for the job.

J and L (L-Polyominos)Aubrey Plaza
Always slightly awkward, but always welcome in a scene, Plaza is perfect to play the Tetris piece that you don’t think will fit, but ends up being the one you needed all along. In Parks and Recreation, you would never think her character’s relationship with Chris Pratt’s would work, but it absolutely does.

S and Z (Skew Polyominos)Charlie Day
In It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, his character has been called an unpredictable wild card, and with his tendency to yell and scream in his roles, you might not always want him around. When he fits properly though, he is an absolutely welcome addition.
