Side-Scrolling Super Mario 3D Land Stage Revealed For Smash Bros.

Today's Super Smash Bros. reveals showcases a new scrolling stage based on Super Mario 3D Land.

Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai wrote on the accompanying Miiverse post, "Here's some info on the Nintendo 3DS stage called Super Mario 3D Land! First, it advances by side-scrolling…"

Sakurai added some additional shots of the stage on the Miiverse along with the one featured on the main Smash Bros. page. It sounds like the stage scrolls, pauses for a moment for some battle, and then moves on to the next venue. Sakurai says that a full rotation of the stage takes about two minutes

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS are on track for a 2014 release. For more, check out the reveals of a new Animal Crossing stage, a new Pokémon Lumiose City stage, a stage based on the Japan-only Tomodachi Collection, Diddy Kong, the Mother Brain assist trophy, the Waluigi assist trophy, LucarioZelda, the Skull KidMarthSonic, a redesigned Ray Gun, the 3DS Mii Plaza, and a male Wii Fit trainer.

  • This is almost turning into Super Mario Crossover with Mega Man and Kirby strolling through a Mario game.
  • It'll most likely move on it's own like all past slide scrolling stages. And if you're too slow and drift off screen, you get KO'd
  • I don't particularly like side-scrolling maps. It's not fun getting left behind...
  • Mod
I feel like Mario and the gang are hogging up a little too much of the game thus far. I mean, Nintendo IS more than just Mario. You only have so much disc-space. Might want to showcase some characters and games that could really use the spotlight instead of tying everything awesome into your main man. You know. Maybe some more Metroid, Eternal Darkness, Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2 (even watered-down would be preferable to no inclusion at all). With that said, I'm getting a little more interested with these tweaks to the base game that have been coming to surface. I still find it hard to qualify this as a real fighting-tournament level franchise (too unbalanced between characters and stages can give advantages depending on who is where), but I'm starting to really grow fond of the innovations to the series they're providing in this installment. If I had a Wii U, I'd likely ponder getting this.
  • At least it's not a simple boring Mario level copy pasted. This will add some needed tension and keep people on their toes. However, no one is surprised that a Mario level is included. I'm guessing a total of 3-5 Mario themed stages total in SSB.

  • i cant wait

  • This stage has already been revealed, way back in E3, as I definitely remember seeing the last screenshot. This is just the first time we are really getting a more in depth look at it.
  • I hate the side scrolling arenas in Smash, I get so many cheap KO's, but still I like that the 3DS and Wii U are getting different stages. I'm going to be buying both versions for sure.

  • Uffda, this is the first time I've realized just how much of a downgrade the 3DS graphics are. I was always going to get the Wii U version, probably not going to get the 3DS version but we'll see what else they come up with.
  • game will be amazing (despite the nonsense in the comments)

  • I really like how the 3ds version looks. Hopefully it plays just as well.

  • Awesome! I can't wait to try it out!

  • Just bought my 2DS last weekend...I hope this game lives up to the hype!

  • Hurraaaaaayyyyythpppppppptttttt...

After the Little Mac reveal, I can't really imagine being excited about a stage reveal.

  • really not too interested in the 3ds/2ds version.. I don't plan on picking it up. Id rather the wiiu. with nintendo, graphics aren't always the most important to anyone, but this version just looks muddy, and loses so much detail when zoomed out.. something kind of important for a smash game since your friends/enemies never occupy the same space as you for more than a few seconds

  • I am a bit worried that the only interesting stages are for the 3DS... does the wiiU even have any stages aside from the few we've seen!?
  • This is nothing new, it was shown off during the E3 trailer for the game and their have been pics of this stage every so often on the official site.

  • Nice. Another fun looking stage.

  • good thing it's coming for 3DS i don't have a wii U
