The Game Awards 2022

Update, 1/18/23:

PlayStation revealed during The Game Awards 2022 that its PlayStation 5 hit, Returnal, would be coming to PC. Now, the company has announced Housemarque's Returnal hits PC on February 15, 2023, meaning PC players are just a few weeks from playing one of PlayStation's best games.

Alongside news of that release date, PlayStation has also detailed some features coming to Returnal in the PC version.

"Nvidia DLSS and AMD FSR have been added, allowing you to dial up your framerate without compromising on resolution," the PlayStation Blog post reads. "Nvidia NIS has also been added for those players who also want to see an increase in performance, but don't have the hardware to support DLSS or FSR."

Returnal will also support ray-traced shadows and reflections, assuming your PC can handle it. The same goes for ultrawide 21:9 and super ultrawide 32:9 wide resolution support, too. You can check if your PC can handle things like ray-tracing and more in the Returnal PC Specs chart below:

As far as sound goes, like on PlayStation 5, Returnal on PC will support 3D sound, Dolby Atmos, and 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound. There's "custom ray-traced audio," as well.

PlayStation recommends that PC players play Returnal with a PS5 DualSense controller, but the game also supports mouse and keyboard.

While waiting for Returnal to hit PC on February 15, read Game Informer's review to find out why we gave it one of our highest scores of 2021 and then read about Returnal's Ascension update, which hit the game last year and added co-op and a new challenge tower.

Original story, 12/8/22:

Announced with a trailer at the Game Awards, Returnal, the formerly PS5-exclusive shooter, is coming to PC. Unfortunately, no release window was given.

Returnal is a roguelike third-person shooter developed by Housemarque, and was one of the first exclusives released on PS5 when it came out in April 2021. You play as Selene Vassos, an astronaut that finds herself stuck in a time loop on an alien planet. It made an appearance at last year's game awards as well, where it was nominated for three awards and won Best Action Game. If you want to learn more about the game, you can read our review, where we called it "a relentless nightmare that’s a dream to play."
