Lego Marvel Avengers
You don’t have to go far these days to be bombarded with superheroes or hear the word “Marvel.” The Disney subsidiary’s creations are an iconic part of pop culture, and we continue to be enamored with every facet of these characters. That’s part of what makes Traveller’s Tales' Lego Marvel’s Avengers so exciting. This team captures the love and detail of these beloved heroes, packing in as much content and fun nods to the franchises as possible. If you thought Lego Marvel Super Heroes delivered on all fronts, prepare for Lego Marvel’s Avengers to trump it, as Traveller’s Tales is constantly out to make every game better than its last. After seeing the game in action at PSX, I broke down what’s so cool about the new entry that’s out on January 26.
Story Mode Captures The Best Moments From The Avengers’ Stories
Story mode focuses on the Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron film and stars Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Vision, and Ultron. Here, they’ll fight through iconic locations and in high-action battles from the Marvel films and universe, such as the infamous battle in New York against charismatic villain Loki from the first Avengers movie. The story blends both movies, but locations and scenes won’t be restricted to just the main films; expect to also see content from Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor: The Dark World, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. You can also add in plenty of Lego’s trademark humor. For instance, the game has a quest line devoted to taking silly Hulk selfies with other heroes at various locales.
It Features The Most Expansive And Diverse Superhero Roster To Date
If you thought Lego Marvel Super Heroes let you live out the dream of assembling your ultimate Marvel army, prepared to be even more impressed by Lego Marvel’s Avengers’ roster. It has over 200 characters to unlock, ranging from the frequent allies like Iron Man and Hulk to more obscure characters like Captain Britain and Fin Fang Foom. More recent characters like Agent Carter (voiced by actress Haley Atwell) and Beth the Waitress (Yes, Ashley Johnson reprises her role from the first movie) also make appearances. You can unlock Stan Lee again, too, who has a bow with one big pencil for his arrow since he’s a writer. And thanks to tons of Twitter requests, Superior Iron Man is in the game.
Better yet? Multiple versions of iconic heroes can be unlocked. For instance, you can be Lou Ferrigno’s ‘80s Hulk to the original, android Human Torch. Every character has their own special, fun abilities. For example, Fin Fang Foom can be scaled up, so you can stomp through towns like you’re Godzilla, and Quicksilver is so fast he can run on water and produce copies of himself.
Exploring Hub Worlds With Tons Of Extra Quests
Seven different hub worlds exist for you to explore and find extra things to do when you’re not playing the story mode. These hub worlds include South Africa, Malibu, Asgard, Barton Farm, Sokovia, Washington, D.C., and Shield Exterior, and they can be traversed with various vehicles from the Marvel universe, such as the Mooncopter, Thanos-Copter, and Lola (the 1962 Corvette from Agents of SHIELD). Certain characters have special quest lines; for instance, Ashley Johnson came in and recorded new dialogue for Beth the Waitress quests. Outside of quests, you can participate in races, prevent crimes, and solve puzzles suited to characters and their special abilities. Different characters allow you to explore the world in new ways, giving you access to closed-off areas or shrinking you down to fit through small crevices.
Fun Team Attacks To Experiment With
Depending on who you have in your party, you can execute a slew of cool team attacks. No matter who you have in your party, you can use team-up moves after taking down a certain amount of enemies and a chance bar pops up. If you pair up certain Avengers in your party from the films, they’ll perform iconic moves from them. Putting different characters together from the Avengers and seeing what attacks come next is part of the fun, so I won't dare spoil any.
So far Traveller’s Tales is putting an exceptional amount of detail into Lego Marvel’s Avengers, and we can’t wait to see how it shakes out when we play the game more and experiment ourselves. Be sure to check out the trailer below to get an idea of the game for yourself.
