New Gameplay Video Shows Off High-Seas Action
by Jeff Marchiafava on Mar 25, 2013 at 07:15 AM

Ubisoft has released an impressive new trailer for Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag that features fresh new gameplay footage.

The trailer introduces players to Edward Kenway, an assassin-trained pirate wreaking havoc on the Caribbean seas at the beginning of the 18th century. Some of the activities you'll engage in are depicted, from ship-to-ship battles to diving for treasure to getting eaten by sharks – though I guess that last one is more of a "terrible thing that can happen" than an "activity."

I wasn't initially sold on Black Flag's pirate theme (specifically, I'd rather have a great pirate game from Ubisoft without the Assassin's Creed trappings), but the video does a good job of selling both the naval action and the locations, which provide a greater visual variety than AC III did. Here's the trailer:

Ubisoft also announced Gamestop's Black Island Pack pre-order bonus for the game, which includes a variety of Captain Morgan-themed content, including a treasure-hunting quest on Black Island, the Black Ship vessel, and Captain Morgan's silver flintlock pistols.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag releases on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii U on October 29. For more on Black Flag's setting, check out our video interview with the developers. To learn about some real pirates, check out our feature, The True History of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.
