Sega Bringing Genesis, Master System Games To Switch Through 'Sega Ages' Initiative

by Suriel Vazquez on Apr 14, 2018 at 12:21 PM

Sega is doubling down on its efforts to bring its classic titles back to life. Along with the announcement of the Sega Mega Drive Mini, the company is bringing over 15 classic Sega games to the Switch's eShop this year in Japan.

The intiative is called "Sega Ages," and will be lead by Studio M2, which has worked on re-releasing Sega's classic games in the past to great success. The currently announced titles for the initiative are Sonic the Hedgehog, Phantasy Star, and Thunder Force 2.

Sega Ages was announced at Sega's annual Sega Fes event in Japan. The company did not announce whether the initiative will come to the West.

Our Take
It looks like Sega is covering all its bases here. If the Sega Mega Drive Mini is a huge hit and becomes the hot commodity the NES and SNES Classics are, then fans may still be able to get their favorite titles digitally on Switch. Hey, Nintendo should do that too!
