Rumor: Spyro The Dragon Remaster Collection Coming To PlayStation 4 This Year

by Kyle Hilliard on Feb 13, 2018 at 08:03 PM

Reports have surfaced today that a collection remastering the first three Spyro the Dragon games is coming this year.

Kotaku is reporting the rumor writing that "multiple sources familiar with the project" are saying that the remaster collection will be comparable to the recent Crash Bandictoot N. Sane Trilogy. The collection will cover the first three games, Spyro the Dragon, Ripto's Rage!, and Year of the Dragon, and will feature a huge visual overhaul and improvements to the game's original save system. Vicarious Visions, the developer behind the N. Sane Trilogy, is working on the remaster

Kotaku also reports that the game will be announced next month for PlayStation 4 and release this year for Sony's console. The game will then make its way to other platforms in 2019. We have reached out to Sony and Insomniac for comment and will update this story if and when we hear a response.

We spoke with Insomniac about the development of the original Spyro for a previous feature. You can find that video below.

Our Take
It's worth emphasizing that this is still firmly in rumor territory, but after the success of Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, this seems like the next logical step. I would not be surprised to see this be fully confirmed next month, and frankly, I hope it is.
