Steam Greenlight Shuts Down Today

by Javy Gwaltney on Jun 06, 2017 at 05:00 PM

It's been a long time coming but Steam has finally pulled the curtain over its Greenlight service, which was the primary method for indie developers to get their games onto Valve's digital store.

In a blog post put by Product Designer Alden Kroll, Valve says "As of now, we are no longer accepting new game or software submissions via Steam Greenlight and voting has been disabled. One week from today, on June 13th, we'll be turning on Steam Direct."

Greenlight has often been heavily criticized for filling Steam's store with broken games and bad clones. Steam Direct is intended to solve many of the issues associated with Greenlight.

You can find the full details about the shutdown and the upcoming system that's going to replace Greenlight, Steam Direct here.

Our Take
Greenlight had *a lot* of problems. We're hopeful and curious to see if Steam Direct fixes any of them.
