In a Twitter exchange today, Xbox head Phil Spencer confirmed that the Phantom Dust HD remaster is coming this year, and should be launching sometime before E3 2017.

Originally announced at Microsoft's E3 2016 press conference, Phantom Dust HD comes just two years after the ill-fated Phantom Dust remake, which was unveiled at E3 2014. See the full twitter exchange below.

Phantom Dust HD, as it's tentatively being called, features upgraded textures and performance, as well as new Xbox Live functionality for the 2005 cult classic. For more on Phantom Dust HD's announcement, you can click here.

Our Take:
While the reviews were fairly positive back in the day, the original Phantom Dust didn't sell all that well. Phantom Dust HD could be Microsoft's way of testing the waters again before investing more in a full-fledged sequel or reboot to the fan favorite franchise.
