Hyrule Warriors Legends introduced players to female version of Nintendo’s green-clad hero named Linkle, which left many fans wondering if they’d be able to play as this Crossbow-wielding hero in the next entry in the Zelda franchise. However, if you were hoping to play as this reverse sex version of your favorite Nintendo hero, don’t hold your breath.
During a recent interview with series producer, Eiji Aonuma, we learned players would only be able to play as the male version of Link in the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
“Linkle was something that [game producer Yosuke] Hayashi from Koei really want to include in the game, and we thought that for a game like that where you’re constantly switching characters it might work,” says Aonuma. “But for the type of Zelda that we’re making, and the fact that there is a princess Zelda and a Link, we just didn’t think that it was quite right. A few years ago, I mentioned that it might not be Link in a trailer, and it kind of caught fire and people started to think that it may be a female Link, but that’s definitely not what I had in mind. I was very surprised. I should be careful what I say.”
