Bandai Namco Selects “My Dark Souls Story” Contest Winners

by Joe Buchholz on Mar 11, 2016 at 07:42 AM

Back in December, Bandai Namco opened up submissions for its “My Dark Souls Story” contest. Fans submitted videos retelling the cryptic story of Dark Souls 1 and 2, and the winners have been announced.

The first place grand prize of $10,000 went to Steve Dixon, who encapsulated Dark Souls lore with a comedic twist. Dixon portrayed discrepancies in the Souls storyline by having a fictional historian and archaeologist present different interpretations of “historical” events. Dixon set himself apart from other top-entries by shooting original footage that parodied standard History Channel shows.

Second place was awarded to a much more cinematic entry by YouTuber Ardy. He won a life-size Red Knight Statue for his brooding entry that accurately captures the tone of the series.

Three runner-ups were selected and sent Dark Souls III Lord of Cinder statues. Surprisingly, none of them cut together footage and set it to the soothing sounds of DMX’s “X Gon’ Give It To Ya.”

We have extensive coverage on the upcoming Dark Souls III which you can check out here. To learn more about the cryptic storytelling of Dark Souls and other games, check out our feature on our favorite hidden stories in games.
